With some eye conditions, the sooner we detect the condition, the better the outcome.
That’s why we recommend OCT as part of your eye test. It can help to detect problems which could threaten your sight up to 5 years before traditional test methods, many years before you notice any change in your vision.
What is OCT?
Optical Coherence Tomography uses light to look behind the surface of your retina (the back of your eye).
Using an OCT we can see the layers underneath the surface of your eye, allowing us to detect problems such as:
- Age-related Macular Degneration
- Diabetic retinopathy
The sooner we detect these conditions, the sooner we can refer you for treatment by a doctor.
Your OCT Examination
Your OCT examination takes only a few seconds and is completely safe and painless. After your scan, your optometrist will examine the images and can tell you straight away if there is any cause for concern. We will store your scan so that at your next appointment we can compare your latest scan with previous images.
How much does it cost?
Our normal charge for an OCT scan is £30, but your first scan will be offered at the introductory price of £20. Please let us know when you book your appointment if you would like us to include an OCT scan.
